SUMMARY

Toys is set in a toy factory, where two very different kinds of toy makers exist. Leslie Zevo (Robin Williams), is an eccentric, childlike toy maker who enjoys making traditional, nonviolent toys that entertain and foster the creative imaginations of children.

After his father's death, his militaristic uncle Leland (Michael Gambon) takes over the factory and starts making war toys that foster violence and destructiveness.

Leslie must find a way to protect his family's business, and to ensure that it continues to inspire joy and creativity, rather than violence.

THE SOCIAL COMMENTARY IN THE FILM

Toys criticizes the toy industry and the exploitation of innocence. The film explores family, immigration, identity, and the desire to preserve innocence and imagination.

WHAT I LOVED

I didn’t. I wanted to. I just didn’t. There were a couple of laugh-out-loud parts at the beginning, but for the most part, I didn’t like anything in this movie. That sucks to say, but it’s the truth.

WHAT I DIDN'T

This movie is a mess. I found it completely unfunny with no emotional connection to the characters at all. I hate just shitting on this movie, but I don’t understand what the point was.

This movie has an anti-war message, and then they completely negate it by having an all-out violent war in the climax of the film.

Robin has no energy in this movie. Everyone else was just there. Make it stop. Let’s move on to something better.

FAVORITE PARTS

I really enjoyed the part when the credits rolled and they offered me something else to watch.

Sorry, everyone involved in making it.

OTHER THOUGHTS

I literally tried watching this four different times before I finally forced myself to finish it. Let’s never speak of this again.
